Is It Behavioral or Sensorimotor Dysfunction?
- Attention problems – distracted by sounds, sights, smells.
- Rigidity, inflexibility, difficulty with transactions, difficulty to regulate self, difficulty in calming after being upset, poor behavior organization.
- Unpredictable explosions of emotion.
- Impaired ability to interact with others.
- Impaired learning or academic struggles despite normal or above-average intelligence. Problems with handwriting, using scissors, tying shoes, using buttons or zippers.
- Difficulty maintaining an alert but relaxed state. Slow to “get going,” fatigues easily, or constantly “on the move.”
- Avoidance of touch. Dislikes wearing certain clothing items.
- Avoidance of daily hygiene, resistance to face-washing or teeth-brushing.
- Avoidance of certain smells. Limited food preferences in tastes and textures.
- Chewing on non-food items. Difficulty sucking or blowing.
- Avoidence of tasks. May appear bored or unmotivated if task is too difficult or directions not understood.
- Seeking intense movement, excessive thrill-seeking or risk-taking.
- Avoidance of movement. Motion Sickness.
- Delayed gross or fine motor skills, poor pencil grip, flat feet.
- Delayed speech/language.
- Coordination problems. Appears clumsy, stiff, or awkward. Motor planning problems. Accident prone.
